The cohort’s performances alongside BBC orchestras will be broadcast across Europe
BBC Radio 3 has revealed the next roster of New Generation Artists. The soloists and chamber ensembles will perform at major UK venues alongside BBC orchestras on a bespoke talent development scheme from September 2026 to December 2028
Broadcasts from the classical and jazz Artists will carry across BBC services to UK listeners, and European audiences via the European Broadcasting Union. They join alumni stretching back to 1999 which include some of the most exciting talents of today, with Alison Balsom, Alan Clayton, Hugh Cutting, Shabaka Hutchings, Jonathan Biss, and Sean Shibe among that number. The incumbent contingent, until December 2027, include the NOVO Quartet whose ‘Track 1’ recording was a recent Gramophone Editor’s Choice.
The international group of Artists are as follows: Brazilian violinist Guido SantAnna; Scottish-Indian guitarist Samrat Majumder; Austrian mezzo-soprano Anja Mittermller; Norwegian Swedish string quartet Opus13 (violinists Sonoko Miriam Welde and Edvard Erdal, violist Albin Uusijärvi and cellist Daniel Thorell); Chinese cellist Yibai Chen; Austrian Gugg Piano Duo (Tereza Gugg-Kalabova and Johannes Gugg); British jazz pianist Sultan Stevenson.
Of the appointments, BBC Radio 3’s Commissioning Editor for Live Music Emma Bloxham, says, ‘they’re without exception young musicians at the very top of their game, and it’s an enormous privilege to be playing such an important role in supporting them and nurturing their talents in the coming years.’
