CK martial artists set to compete in World Championships

Chatham-Kent is going to be well represented at the upcoming Jiu-Jitsu World Championships happening in Greece.

Hundreds of the best martial artists from across the world will be competing from October 24 to November 3, 2024.

Among them is Chatham’s Isabelle Armstrong. She will compete in the U18 female -52kg category.

Armstrong is coming off a win at the Canadian Championship in Brampton this past June.

“I didn’t think I’d win but then I did,” she said.

It didn’t take long before people started asking her if she planned on competing in Greece. Armstrong claimed she was a bit hesitant since she wouldn’t have any family with her and because she’s also never been on a flight. However, her dad eventually convinced her to go.

Now she’s put a hefty goal on herself.

“I want to at least get first place or second place… everyone has high expectations and put lots of money towards this,” Armstrong explained.

Joining her in Greece will be Blenheim’s own Rain Pfaff, the two-time reigning champion in the adult female +70 kg category. She’s coming off wins in Abu Dhabi in 2022 and Mongolia in 2023.

Both Armstrong and Pfaff train at Armstrong Academy of Martial Arts in Chatham.
