It is time for local talent to shine. In an upcoming series, the Pharos Arts Foundation seeks to showcase renowned Cypriot musicians and as such presents the Cyprus Artists Series. First up is a young musician who has already earned her place in the classical music and piano scene.
Recognised for her extraordinary talent and musical maturity beyond her years, the 17-year-old Cypriot pianist Anna Avramidou has already made a remarkable impression on the international stage. Despite her young years, she has several awards and distinctions under her belt. Following her win at the 6th International Franz Liszt Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Weimar, she participates in Pharos Arts Foundation’s Cyprus Artists Series and presents a piano recital in Nicosia on April 10.
At the competition in Weimar, Avramidou not only claimed first prize in her category but also secured the Grand Prix and multiple special awards. She has already collaborated with several musical ensembles and artists of high calibre.
Avramidou gave her first solo piano recital at the age of nine, and a year later, she made her debut with the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. In March 2020, at the age of 12, she made her debut with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and since then has performed with the Thessaloniki State Orchestra, the Commandaria Orchestra and at recitals at the Leeds International Concert Season, the Brunnenhof Residenz in Munich and the Barletta Piano Festival in Italy.
In recognition of her achievements, particularly of her win at the 6th International Franz Liszt Piano Competition for Young Pianists, the High Commission of Cyprus in the United Kingdom organised a piano recital in her honour in February 2024, at the House of Cyprus in London.
Currently a student at the prestigious Purcell School for Young Musicians, Avramidou will make her recital debut at the Pharos Arts Foundation’s Cyprus Artists Series in a fascinating programme of works by Bach, Haydn, Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin and Debussy. The recital will take place on April 10 at The Shoe Factory, starting promptly at 8.30pm.
