A BURSARY set up in memory of one of Jersey’s most respected dance teachers is offering up to £1,000 to help local artists and performers develop their creative skills.
The Jersey Eisteddfod Valerie Guy Bursary – funded through the bequest of the late Valerie Todd, known to many as Miss Guy – supports training, tuition, travel or equipment costs for those involved in the arts.
Miss Guy, who died in 2022 at the age of 101, left a significant proportion of her estate to the Jersey Eisteddfod.
The organisation launched the bursary in her name last year and has now opened applications for the 2025/26 round.
Applicants must have competed in one of the qualifying Eisteddfod festivals within the same year, including the 2025 Dance, English Speech and Drama, and Music sections, or the 2026 Jèrriais, French, Modern Languages, and Creative Arts sections.
Jersey Eisteddfod Chair Pat Sabey said the bursary’s first year “was an enormous success, attracting applicants from many different disciplines and of all ages”.
