New Delhi: Marking India’s 79th Independence Day, tech giant Google on Friday unveiled a vibrant doodle inspired by the country’s rich tradition of tile artistry. Drawing from regional crafts such as Jaipur’s blue pottery and West Bengal’s terracotta relief work, the illustration pays homage to India’s cultural heritage and modern achievements.

The specially crafted doodle features the word ‘GOOGLE’ rendered in six uniquely styled tiles, each representing a different Indian art form and symbolising the nation’s milestones in fields such as space, cricket, chess, and cinema.

The first tile, forming the letter ‘G’, is adorned in Jaipur blue pottery style with elegant floral motifs.

The second tile includes a floral pattern along with an image of a spaceship, reflecting India’s advancements in space exploration.

The third tile, bearing traditional design, shows a cricket ball flanked by two bats – a nod to the nation’s cricketing legacy.

The fourth tile showcases another regional tile design, adding to the diversity of the visual.

The fifth tile highlights a chess piece, representing India’s excellence in the game that originated in the subcontinent.

The sixth and final tile features a film reel, creatively forming the letters ‘L’ and ‘E’, symbolising the country’s impact on global cinema.

The doodle was designed by artists Makarand Narkar and Sonal Vasave from Boomranng Studio. A note on Google’s doodle webpage explains the inspiration behind the artwork: “The tiles are a diverse array of styles and textures from different regions in India… Each tile showcases a different national achievement, from space missions and world chess titles, to cricketing glory and international film recognitions.”
