Visit Zeitz MOCAA

The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, one of the continent’s most prestigious gallery spaces, has free entry on Wednesdays.

On Heritage Day, the museum will be open to the public from 10:00 to 16:00.

Visitors can view the Spring is Rebellious: The Art & Life of Albie Sachs exhibition, which tracks the former judge’s life and legacy. The day will also include multilingual architecture tours, guided exhibition tours, art workshops, an outdoor food court, cultural performances and live DJ sets.

Parkview Heritage Festival

The festival includes wine tasting, a literary event and children’s activities. It takes place from 9:00 to 18:00 at Tyrone Avenue, Parkview.

Tickets range between R50 and R250.

Daily Dose Durban

The Daily Dose coffee shop has invited people to attend their live music event at the Umhlanga Promenade, from 15:00 to 18:00.

The Old Mutual Music in Durban

The event will take place at the Durban Botanic Gardens, featuring performances from Sjava, Big Zulu and Lwah Ndlunkulu. It starts at 13:00 and tickets can be bought on Webtickets, between R20 and R295.

Celebrations in Oudtshoorn, led by Paul Mashatile

Deputy President Paul Mashatile will officiate the 2025 Heritage Day celebrations at Bridgeton Sport Grounds in the Oudtshoorn Local Municipality, Western Cape.

The event “will also focus on museums as custodians of memory and knowledge, and as institutions that are uniquely positioned to lead the shift,” reads an advisory.

Gauteng Provincial government celebrations

The Gauteng Heritage Day Celebration will take place at the Kagiso Sports Complex, starting at 09:00.

“Various cultural groups representing Batswana, Basotho, amaZulu, amaXhosa, vhaVhenda, Indians and others will take to the stage to showcase their talents through poetry, music and dance,” the government announced in a statement.

The Purple Mountain Heritage Festival

The festival takes place from 23 to 24 September in Porterville, Western Cape. The free event features art, poetry, traditional food, storytelling, music, photography, and astronomy.
