WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – As we continue Hispanic Heritage Month, the Wichita Falls Alliance for Arts and Culture is uniting the community and partnering with local non-profits to celebrate Hispanic achievement in the arts.
Executive Director Ann Arnold said that they proudly supported a city proclamation in partnership with the Mexican Veteran Association, Potencia, and Zavala at the beginning of the month to officially recognize Hispanic Heritage Month in Wichita Falls.
She said that their role as a local art agency is to support and promote the arts and cultural organizations in our area, and that includes Hispanic Heritage Month.
“We have several organizations that are actively promoting Hispanic Heritage, we are fortunate to work with these organizations both as a grant maker through the city of Wichita Falls and as an advocate to what they’re doing,” said Arnold. “We have an arts calendar in which we are promoting those events and making sure that people know that we’re celebrating that part of our history here in Wichita Falls.”
She went on to say that their organization reminds people during Hispanic Heritage Month about their culture and the various traditional events in our area.
“Cultural preservation is so important, and so as part of Hispanic Heritage Month, that may be going to a concert or attending an event that Zavala is hosting,” she said.
Their organization showcases artwork by Mexican-inspired artists based locally. Arnold emphasized that it’s important to recognize those with Hispanic heritage to preserve that culture.
“Artwork inspired by Mexican artwork or some other form of Hispanic artwork and just seeing what’s happening, being involved and supporting the organizations, doing the work here to preserve that culture and artwork and all of those things here,” she said.
