Step forward in Hereford Museum and Art Gallery project

Herefordshire Council has appointed construction company VINCI Building to support the remaining design stage of the project.

The company was selected for its experience in heritage site projects, including York Guildhall and the National Portrait Gallery.

Councillor Harry Bramer, cabinet member for community services and assets, said: “I am delighted to be able to announce the appointment of VINCI Building to help us through the next phase of the Hereford Museum and Art Gallery transformation project.

“Their previous experience with the restoration and renovation of heritage projects is hugely impressive and we look forward to working with them in the months to come.”

Mace Ltd will continue providing project management and design services, having supported the council through the early stages of the project.

The completed museum will feature eight modernised galleries, a temporary exhibition space, and a roof-top café and courtyard with 360-degree views over the city.

The historic Woolhope Club Room will also be restored.

It will be the first UK museum to be renovated to EnerPHit environmental standards, potentially leading to energy cost savings of 75 to 90 per cent.

The new museum and art gallery is expected to open to the public in 2027.

Its redevelopment has been funded by Herefordshire Council, Stronger Hereford, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and Arts Council England.
