An art exhibition inspired by the natural world is set to open.
Spirit of Place, featuring paintings by Suffolk artist Katherine Hamilton, will be showcased at Chappel Galleries from Saturday, November 8, to Sunday, December 7, 2025.
Hamilton, who lives and works near Southwold, draws inspiration from untamed landscapes including forests, valleys and gorges.
She said she often feels like an intruder in these places and tries to capture their essence through her art.

Her journeys are “taken to renew one’s sense of wonder of the world”, and her paintings are the result of “months and years of scraping off, starting again, throwing away,” she said.
Hamilton trained at the Academy of Florence and the Byam Shaw School of Fine Art and has been exhibiting her work since 1984, both in the UK and the US.
Her paintings are held in both public and private collections.
The exhibition is described as “a journey of trying to find a way of sharing what inspired me with the viewer”, offering a glimpse into the beauty and mystery of the natural world as seen through her eyes.
