The Goethe-Institut Myanmar Auditorium is hosting an exhibition, “Narratives from Earth: Natural Materials in Contemporary Art,” showcasing a collection of artworks by emerging and mid-career visual artists from Myanmar. This exhibition is the culmination of the ‘Materials of Life’ project, which ran from March to May and focused on the artistic exploration of natural materials.
The participating artists went through a transformative journey during a series of intensive training sessions, learning to harness the beauty and versatility of natural materials in their art. Their works reveal a profound connection to the earth, reflecting both its delicate intricacies and its robust textures. Through their creative lenses, these artists have woven narratives that highlight the inherent beauty and significance of the natural world.
A standout feature of the exhibition is the inclusion of a special collection by renowned Cambodian artist Sopheap Pich. Pich’s work, created during a collaborative workshop in May, brings a unique perspective to the exhibition, blending traditional materials with innovative techniques. His pieces offer a powerful testament to the dialogue between material and artistic expression.
To further enrich the experience, the exhibition will be complemented by artist talk and curatorial talk sessions. These discussions will provide insights into the creative processes and conceptual underpinnings of the artworks for a deeper understanding of the artists’ perspectives and the project’s impact.
Visit the Goethe-Institut Myanmar Auditorium for this celebration of art and nature, and engage with the stories told through these inspiring works.
