Artist Art Jackson’s paintings on exhibit at Wind Creek Chicago Southland

Paintings by Art Jackson make up the second installation of The Prairie State College (PSC) Art Showcase at Wind Creek Chicago Southland opening Oct. 1.

Jackson is an artist and former PSC Director of Public Safety.

The ongoing series highlights the talent of PSC students, alums, and residents of Community College District 515.

Jackson, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is a self-taught artist who began painting while stationed in Alaska. Working primarily in acrylics, his works are recognized for his use of bold colors, heavy textures and – most recently – portraits of influential Black historical figures.

“My hope is that these paintings will inspire children, connecting them to history while encouraging pride, curiosity, and imagination,” Jackson said. He has donated many of these portraitures to a school in Chicago.

Works from Jackson’s collection are available for purchase at Wind Creek Chicago Southland, 17300 S. Halsted St. The paintings will be display for two monhs.

Artists in this showcase may also be featured at the Christopher Art Gallery at Prairie State College, 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights. Details are at prairiestate.edu/artgallery.
