Exhibition of Bob Dylan paintings set to open in London

Bob Dylan fans are in luck once again. ‘Point Blank’, a collection of 97 paintings created by the singer-songwriter, will open at London’s Halcyon Gallery this May.

The exhibition is based on original sketches created by Dylan between 2021 and 2022. They picture people playing instruments, couples, sportspeople, rooms, and places where Dylan spent time.

Dylan said of the pieces: “The idea was not only to observe the human condition, but to throw myself into it with great urgency.”

Dylan also said his excessive use of colour in the art on display was an attempt to create “living, breathing entities that have emotional resonance, colours used as weapons and mood setters, a means of storytelling.”

Kate Brown, the creative director at Halcyon, said: “These works on paper feel like memories, intangible windows into the life and imagination of one of the greatest storytellers who ever lived.

This isn’t the first time the Gallery will be home to Dylan’s work. The Halcyon previously exhibited Dylan’s drawings in a series called ‘Drawn Blank’, featuring graphite drawings made when the singer travelled between Europe, Asia and the US from 1989 to 1992. He later reworked many of the pieces with paint.

His relationship with the gallery thus spans almost two decades. Paul Green, the President and Founder of Halcyon, said that their relationship has afforded him “an extraordinary experience to watch this cultural icon develop into such a critically revered and important visual artist so closely.”

Only days after the exhibition opens, Bob Dylan will travel across the pond for the beginning of the Outlaw Music Festival tour, which starts on May 13th in Phoenix. Alongside Willie Nelson, he will embark on a 35-date tour that ends on September 19th, 2025, in East Troy, Wisconsin.

The exhibition is free to enter and will open on May 9th.
