Only known paintings of enslaved Mississippians on display at Mississippi Museum of Art

After purchasing “Portrait of Frederick,” the Mississippi Museum of Art now owns the only two known paintings of enslaved Mississippians that were created pre-emancipation. For more than 100 years, the paintings were kept by the descendants of the subjects’ enslavers. (AP Video by Sophie Bates)
