Heritage museums announce merger – Arts Professional

Two heritage museums in north-east London are merging in a bid to create a resilient single organisation.

The Museums Journal reports that Walthamstow Pumphouse Museum and Markfield Beam Engine and Museum will be overseen by the newly-formed Heritage and Communities Trust.

The museums keep their individual names and identities but hope to benefit from a unified governance structure and the ability to share resources and expertise.

Abdullah Seba, the chief executive of the Heritage and Communities Trust, said: “By joining forces, we’re creating a stronger, more resilient organisation that can better preserve and celebrate our shared industrial heritage. Our visitors will benefit from enhanced programming, improved facilities, and a more comprehensive understanding of London’s industrial past.”
