A new featured artist has set up his latest display at the heritage center for the summer.
John Cook, a United States Navy veteran, has worked with mosaic art for around eight years. Cook now displays several pieces of his mosaic art at Chisholm Trail Heritage Center.
Cook, of Wichita Falls, Texas, brings his own blend of history, creativity, along with craftsmanship to his artwork.
CTHC Executive Director Leah Mulkey said Cook has showcased his art during several events at the Heritage Center over the years.
“John was a guest artist during several of our Reining in the Arts events,” Mulkey said. “His passion for storytelling through art and his engaging personality make him a perfect fit for our summer season.”
Cook, born and raised in California, worked in the engine room on the USS England, sailing along Australia, Hong Kong and Japan.
Cook said his journey with art began from a love for history, as well as an early interest in the arts.
“I even tried to paint, but I did not feel the fulfillment from the artwork,” he said.
After discovering mosaics nearly eight years ago, he said he found his calling.
“There’s something enriching about the process,” Cook said. “It fuses timeless tradition with contemporary vision, and that’s where I feel most inspired.”
Cook said mosaics combines “old and new world art.”
Cook said he enjoys the challenge the mosaics bring.
Cook will attend the 15th Annual National Day of the Cowboy event from 1-4 p.m. July 26 at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center.
Cook’s art exhibit will run through Oct. 31 and is open to the public.
