Skipton’s heritage to be celebrated in new art exhibition

Traces: A Focus on Skipton’s History will run from October 10 to November 16 at Craven Arts House on Otley Street.

The exhibition, curated by Craven Arts and Skipton Civic Society, brings together work from 28 professional artists from the Craven district, each reflecting on the town’s buildings, landscapes, and waterways.

Bridget March, one of the curators, said: “‘Traces’ offers a fresh perspective on Skipton’s urban landscape, inviting viewers to engage with the richness of the stories and the heritage within.”

Alongside the exhibition, visitors can attend weekly illustrated lunchtime talks, led by Skipton Civic Society members, every Wednesday from 12.30pm to 1.30pm.

Topics will include the history of Skipton’s buildings, routes, and green spaces.

Sue Wrathmell of Skipton Civic Society added: “The Society is delighted to collaborate with Craven Arts to further its aims and provide support and expertise for Traces.”

The talks form part of a wider programme of events, including artist demonstrations and workshops.

Craven Arts House was founded in 2017 by a collective of artists from the Craven area and has since become a hub for creative activity in Skipton.
