Community member finds stolen paintings, now returned to owner: Oak Bay Police

Watercolour paintings that were previously stolen have now been returned to their rightful owner, thanks to a tip from the public, according to Oak Bay Police.

The paintings were stolen around 10:45 a.m. on Oct. 19, when an artist left two portfolios containing around 30 to 40 unframed paintings outside of the Monterey Recreation Centre.

Oak Bay Police previously said each painting is estimated to be worth about $500.

Now, Oak Bay Police says a “sharp-eyed community member” saw the paintings and reported it to police. The paintings have now been recovered and returned to the owner.

Two break-and-enters under investigation

Oak Bay Police says two break-and-enters are under investigation.

On Nov. 6, residents were out for dinner when someone entered through the back door of their home in the 1800 block of Hampshire Road.

The person stole jewelry and passports. Officers searched the nearby neighbourhood and provided victim support services.

Then on Nov. 7, police received a report that a home on Valdez Place had been broken into sometime between Nov. 4 and 7.

The suspect forced entry through the front door and stole items including camera equipment and jewelry.

Officers canvassed the neighbourhood and are reviewing CCTV footage.

Both of these investigations are ongoing.
