B&M Care’s Montrose Care Home in North Watford has become widely known as the artistic home within the group. Every week, residents living with dementia take part in a variety of art sessions led by their Engagement Lead Joseph Dominguez. Using different artistic mediums, residents create beautiful paintings including landscapes, abstracts, and tonalist works, many of which are later displayed in the Montrose Art Gallery.
Families and relatives have been deeply moved by the artwork created by their loved ones, with some choosing to acquire paintings through donations to the residents’ fund. In addition, several schools and charities across Watford have been gifted one or two paintings as a gesture of appreciation for their kindness and support. These include organisations that sent Christmas cards or visited Montrose to sing Christmas carols for residents. The Grove has also displayed a number of residents’ paintings after inviting them for Christmas tea.
