Silent Stage: Artists share perspectives

The latest exhibition at Cline House Gallery opened April 23, bringing together three regional artists for a month-long show running until May 23.

Featuring paintings by Alex Vachon, assemblage work by Peter LeClair, and photography by Sean George, the exhibit explores a “silent stage” between past and future.

LeClair, an artist for 45 years, who has exhibited in Toronto and Ottawa, describes his practice as rooted in found materials.

“The medium is called assemblage. This is the language of stuff,” he said. “The materials are chosen specifically to reflect the theme. We have to go pretty deep to put together content about things like environmentalism and spiritualism,” he added.

George, a mid-career photographer, said his street photography work reflects both experimentation and observation. “They’re all done with a cell phone camera, it’s something I’ve never done before,” he said.

“Artists are good observers, and it’s important to observe what’s going on. I want people to see what’s around them-we’re often too distracted. There’s litter, homelessness… not all of it is bad, but it’s important to observe,” he concluded.
