Andhra Pradesh: Heritage activist Lakshmi Narayana appointed Intach convenor | Vijayawada News

GUNTUR: Noted social and heritage activist SVS Lakshmi Narayana has been appointed as state convenor of Indian National Trust for Art, Culture and Heritage. He will be in the position for three years. Intach national committee member secretary and retired IAS officer Ravindra Singh in a commission on Tuesday said that SVS Lakshmi Narayana has been picked for the top post keeping in view of his relentless work to protect the heritage structures, art and culture. Expressing happiness over his reappointment as convenor, Lakshmi Narayana said that he will work to uphold the Intach’s mission to conserve heritage. He said that conversation is based on the belief that living in harmony with heritage enhances the quality of life, and it is the duty of every citizen. He said that their priority is to sensitize the public about the pluralistic cultural legacy of India and instill a sense of social responsibility towards preserving India’s common heritage. “We will work to protect and preserve AP’s living, built, and natural heritage by undertaking necessary actions and measures. We will also document unprotected buildings of archaeological, architectural, historic and aesthetic significance, as well as the cultural resources, as this is the first step towards formulating conservation plans,” said Lakshmi Narayana. He explained that the Intach national chapter would develop heritage policies and regulations, and make legal interventions to protect India’s heritage when necessary and all such regulations would be followed in the state. He said that Intach would provide expertise in the field of conservation, restoration and preservation of specific works of art and encourage capacity-building by developing skills through training programmes.He said that they would also undertake emergency response measures during natural or man-made disasters and support the local administration whenever heritage is threatened. He said that they would foster collaborations, Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) and partnerships with govt and other national and international agencies and generate sponsorships for conservation and educational projects.
