Damascus, May 7 (SANA) The Junior Chamber International (JCI) – Old Damascus, in collaboration with the Bariq Educational Foundation and the Ministry of Tourism, launched the “Authenticity of the Soul” project in Damascus. This initiative combines art therapy with archaeological heritage to promote mental well-being.
Ninety-six young participants, including students and volunteers, took part in the opening by embarking on an interactive tour through the neighborhoods and historical landmarks of Old Damascus.
The tour began in front of the statue of Saladin and culminated in a visit to “Damascus: Rose and Heritage” exhibition, which highlights traditional crafts such as sculpture and pottery.
Mohammad Hannou, Vice President of the local chapter, emphasized that the project signifies a step towards sustainable tourism that connects mental health with cultural heritage. The initiative aims to provide psychological support within historical sites.
Project Director Sarah Saad explained that the primary goal is to enhance mental health by fostering awareness of cultural heritage. Psychologist Dr. Lina Al-Tahhan described the project as a journey of self-discovery that strengthens cultural responsibility.
Participants praised the unique experience, noting the effective blend of art therapy and cultural identity. The Junior Chamber International continues to empower youth through developmental and cultural initiatives.
