Artist bringing live painting and dog portraits to seaside weekend

Live painting, city streets and dog portraits come together for a one-of-a-kind art event.

Devon-based artist Emily Powell will bring her expressive style to Brighton and Hove during a dedicated painting weekend on May 22 and 23, offering spontaneous dog portraits and capturing moments in real-time.

On Saturday, Ms Powell will paint scenes around the city, including the seafront, the Lanes and other well-loved landmarks.

The event takes a more playful turn on Sunday, when she will set up on Hove Lawns to create live portraits of dogs.

Each portrait will take around 15 minutes and will cost £100.

Emily Powell said: “Brighton has such an incredible visual energy, there’s colour, personality and character everywhere you look.

“I love painting live because people become part of the process. Whether it’s a city skyline or someone’s beloved dog, it’s about capturing something real in that exact moment.”

Dog portraits will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and spaces are limited.

Ms Powell is known for her bold brushwork, vibrant use of colour and emotionally charged artwork.

Her live painting events regularly attract crowds who enjoy watching her pieces take shape.

She said her approach is rooted in capturing a sense of meaning in the moment, whether it’s a familiar street scene or a cherished pet.

Fans and passers-by will be able to see her at work throughout the city on Saturday and enjoy the chance to have their dog immortalised in her signature style on Sunday at Hove Lawns.
