The artist’s work will be on display at Beckstone Art Gallery in Greystoke Ghyll, near Penrith, from Saturday, May 10, until Monday, May 26.
This exhibition celebrates more than 40 years of collaboration between Mr Thompson and Beckstones Art Gallery.

“He is amongst the best of his generation, and his main life’s work to date has been painting the inspirational landscapes of his beloved Lake District with its dramatic light and changes of seasons as well as the gentler surroundings of the Eden Valley, where he was born and has spent all his life.”
The new collection features 45 ‘meticulously painted’ landscapes of the Lake District.
The paintings in the exhibition are available for purchase, with prices varying from £495 to £5,000.
Having been born near Penrith in 1953 and an alumnus of Carlisle College of Art, Mr Thompson has professionally painted Lake District landscapes since 1976.
His artworks have earned him a global collector base of thousands, and his biennial exhibitions at Beckstones attract collectors nationally and worldwide.
The gallery spokesperson added: “Painting entirely in oils, usually on board, Alan’s work is finely detailed and beautifully composed.
“Yet there is a magical ingredient that sets his work apart, no matter what season or time of day is depicted, and that is the way he is able to bring light into a painting, glinting on the surface of a river, bursting through the storm clouds, glistening on snow, the golden glow of a sunset or sunrise, breathtakingly beautiful.”
The exhibition can be viewed daily at Beckstones Art Gallery, Greystoke Ghyll, between Saturday, May 10, and Monday, May 26.
