Beyond Tangible Objects: A Dialogue of Tradition and Modernity

[ad_1]

The Hong Kong Arts Centre’s Beyond Tangible Objects marks the China Academy of Art’s Hong Kong debut, bridging traditional craftsmanship and modern creativity.

Description

The Hong Kong Arts Centre and the School of Crafts of the China Academy of Art (CAA) co-present Beyond Tangible Objects – Hong Kong Exhibition of Faculty Works from the School of Crafts, China Academy of Art. Showcasing more than 60 works by nearly 50 artists across ceramics, crafts, cultural heritage conservation and design studies, the exhibition embodies craftsmanship as a living dialogue between tradition, creativity and material.

Highlights include “Vessels of Stillness” by Dai Yuxiang, head of the department of ceramics at the School of Crafts, CAA, and an award‑winning artist celebrated for merging Zen philosophy with modernist expression. By introducing bold geometric structures and linear compositions to heighten form and tension, Dai’s series captures the exhibition’s spirit of transcending boundaries. Beyond Tangible Objects celebrates craftsmanship as both a discipline and a philosophy, revealing how Chinese artisans continue to reinterpret heritage within a global, contemporary context.
