Lagos-based entrepreneur, Judith Amarachi, is gaining attention in Nigeria’s art scene with AmyAfrique Art Gallery, a platform she describes not just as a business, but as “a life and a story of becoming.”
In a statement shared with Sunday Scoop, she noted that the brand was shaped by years of struggle, financial hardship, and continuous reinvention.
“I don’t want AmyAfrique to be told like a business. I want it to be felt like a life,” she said.
Amarachi disclosed that she left school early due to financial constraints, taking up survival jobs such as selling tickets for entertainment events before relocating to Lagos in 2013 in search of better opportunities.
In Lagos, she worked as a runway model, appearing in fashion shows and music videos, before transitioning into fashion entrepreneurship. She later pursued aviation training and qualified as an air hostess for the HS125 private jet, though she struggled to fully break into the industry due to limited professional connections.
Her turning point, however, came after an unexpected visit to an art gallery in Lagos.
Following that experience, Judith began studying art, engaging with artists, and researching global art trends. With mentorship from creatives such as Olah Henry, she laid the foundation for what would become AmyAfrique Art Gallery.
The gallery officially launched in 2021 with a small collection of artworks and support from friends who became its first patrons. Since then, it has grown steadily, attracting collectors, art enthusiasts, and wider public interest.
