Around the world, Spotify is briefing local media on their countries’ figures from its latest Loud & Clear stats update. We reported on the Nigerian data yesterday and now it’s India’s turn.
The Hindustan Times has the details, including the news that two thirds of Spotify payouts generated within India went to the music of Indian artists.
However, as in Nigeria there is an exports story here too: nearly 50% of all the royalties generated by Indian artists’ music on Spotify in 2024 came from other countries – up from 40% in 2023.
Spotify also highlighted the growth of non-film music from India, saying that more than 65% of the ‘top 30 most exported songs’ were not from movie soundtracks.
However, non-Spotify figures show India faced challenges in 2024 too.
The IFPI told Music Ally this week that according to its new Global Music Report, India’s [domestic] recorded-music revenues only grew by 2.5% in 2024.
That compares to 15.4% growth in 2023, as India fell from 14th to 15th in the IFPI’s global market rankings.
