The Robson Valley Arts and Culture Council put on an annual Fraser Heritage Festival to celebrate creativity in the valley on Saturday, September 20th. The group is a registered charity that is dedicated to facilitating and encouraging all forms of art and culture in the community.
The afternoon event included a variety of workshops: leather stamping with Tom Pittman, watercolor painting with Mercedes Yetter, and neurographic jellyfish art with Heather Zahn. Jeff Nadwidny and Randy Packer displayed many styles of armour and bladed weaponry. Some local youth who have been attending sessions with Packer and Nadwidny also showed off some of their sword handling skills. Larry Stamm demonstrated a stage in guitar making and Katherine Gorham spent the afternoon at her spinning wheel. The event was supported by a grant by the Northern Development Initiative Trust.
The Council is hoping to build their membership base, and support grassroots projects and ideas.
“Recently we have supported the Dunster Circle Dancers, the Rocky Mountain Martial Arts Collective, and other individual artists in the valley,” said Council Chairperson Ari Dressler.
Memberships for both individuals and organizations are available. If you’re interested in participating in future RVACC events, or becoming a member, please email [email protected].
